October 14, 2002

Resident update - Virginia Sumners recently hospitalized and
neighbors are watching after her home.
She is expected to return home in several days. Additionally, Lucy Merrit has moved to the
Summit at Westlake for an indefinite period of time. Ms. Merrit can be contacted at The Summit At Westlake Hills, Retirement Community, (512)
328-3775, 1034 Liberty Park Dr, Austin, TX 78746. A copy of the recently distributed newsletter was sent to her
attention.
Regional
Planning – Issues continue regarding the inclusion of JHNA in the Downtown
planning district, the University planning district or the West Austin planning
district. No action has been taken by
the JHNA to determine which planning district we would like to affiliate with
at this time.
Bylaws –
Copies of the current bylaws distributed by the president to the membership
with discussion about changing some aspects to more accurately reflect our
current neighborhood goals. Some
discussion of membership dues followed.
New
website launched. New logo
displayed. New newsletter circulated. Discussion of medallion plans for homes
wishing to participate in a neighborhood sponsored designation
(voluntary). Walking tour brochure
suggested to be developed. Logo Decals
for all members will be distributed.
Reminder of fall party planned for the afternoon of October 27th
at Sheryl Michel’s historic landmark home.
Public
Improvement Update
Continued
discussion of traffic on 19th street and pending improvements
including information obtained from city officials indicates that renovations
to 19th street will commence the summer of 2003. Sidewalks will be added in the next 6
months. Coordination of street
improvements and sidewalk improvements is undetermined at this time.
Plat of
historic homes viewed at meeting obtained from the City of Austin. Mike Ward proposed to bring a larger display
to the fall picnic so that neighborhood residents would be able to easily see
which properties are currently designated as historic by the city and which
properties have potential of being designated as historic by the city. There was some discussion about distributing
a questionnaire to the membership about the benefits and limitations of
historic designation.
Political
Committee
Mansion
at Judges Hill scheduled to open January of 2003. Committee continues to watch property at corner of West and 19th
streets.
Reminder
of parking renewal fees. Proposed new
structure for membership dues with optional contributions proposed to various
funds such as political action, zoning, or communications.
