President’s Report

Resident update - Virginia Sumners recently hospitalized and neighbors are watching after her home.  She is expected to return home in several days.  Additionally, Lucy Merrit has moved to the Summit at Westlake for an indefinite period of time.  Ms. Merrit can be contacted at The Summit At Westlake Hills, Retirement Community, (512) 328-3775, 1034 Liberty Park Dr, Austin, TX 78746.  A copy of the recently distributed newsletter was sent to her attention.

Regional Planning – Issues continue regarding the inclusion of JHNA in the Downtown planning district, the University planning district or the West Austin planning district.  No action has been taken by the JHNA to determine which planning district we would like to affiliate with at this time.

Bylaws – Copies of the current bylaws distributed by the president to the membership with discussion about changing some aspects to more accurately reflect our current neighborhood goals.  Some discussion of membership dues followed.

Communications Committee Update

New website launched.  New logo displayed.  New newsletter circulated.  Discussion of medallion plans for homes wishing to participate in a neighborhood sponsored designation (voluntary).  Walking tour brochure suggested to be developed.  Logo Decals for all members will be distributed.  Reminder of fall party planned for the afternoon of October 27th at Sheryl Michel’s historic landmark home.

Public Improvement Update

Continued discussion of traffic on 19th street and pending improvements including information obtained from city officials indicates that renovations to 19th street will commence the summer of 2003.  Sidewalks will be added in the next 6 months.  Coordination of street improvements and sidewalk improvements is undetermined at this time.

Historic Committee

Plat of historic homes viewed at meeting obtained from the City of Austin.  Mike Ward proposed to bring a larger display to the fall picnic so that neighborhood residents would be able to easily see which properties are currently designated as historic by the city and which properties have potential of being designated as historic by the city.  There was some discussion about distributing a questionnaire to the membership about the benefits and limitations of historic designation.

Political Committee

Mansion at Judges Hill scheduled to open January of 2003.  Committee continues to watch property at corner of West and 19th streets.
